About Us
The Friends of READ/San Diego Literacy Programs is a non-profit corporation, run by volunteers from your community, whose goal is to bring literacy to all.
We're a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation (ID# 33-0522311) dedicated to supporting, fostering and promoting adult literacy programs throughout the County of San Diego. The organization was established to support READ/San Diego, the adult literacy program of the San Diego Public Library. We also support a variety of additional literacy programs, including family literacy, work place literacy and computer literacy.
We encourage you to consider becoming a volunteer tutor, in your own neighborhood. The READ/San Diego Adult Literacy Program of the San Diego City Library matches learners with tutors based on multiple factors including geography, typically using your local library as a tutoring center.
In fact, we are so happy to greet new potential tutors that we will gladly arrange to come and speak to your group, club, or other type of organization about our programs. Please contact us for such a get together.
If you are within the County of San Diego, but not the City of San Diego, and want to contact a literacy organization we recommend that you start with The San Diego Council On Literacy.
