READ/San Diego's adult literacy program equips low-literate adults with the basic skills and resources needed to attain personal goals and function to the best of their ability as parents, workers and community members.

Are you interested in becoming a student in the READ/San Diego program, but don't know where to start? You can attend an orientation to find out what it's all about, and how you can take the next steps to becoming a learner. See the Events section for details and schedule.
To qualify, an adult learner:
- must be 18 years of age or older and not enrolled in an education program for credit
- must seek literacy services for him/herself in English and is able to complete the intake interview in English
- must have a minimum of three hours of time each week to meet for tutoring
- must be willing to make a commitment to learning
As an adult learner you will:
- be provided an orientation training and informal assessment
- be provided tutoring materials
- meet with a volunteer literacy tutor twice a week, for an hour and a half each session
- meet at a public library or one of our learning centers
- have on-going support from the literacy professionals on staff at READ/San Diego
