Basic Skills Instruction
READ/San Diego provides one-to-one, small group, classroom and computer aided instruction in basic reading, writing and math.
Volunteer literacy tutors provide instruction in phonics, reading comprehension, spelling, writing, vocabulary, math, life skills, GED test preparation and preparation for the U.S. Citizenship Exam.

Families For Literacy (FFL)
The Family Literacy Program assists low-literate parents in developing their own skills in being their childs first and most important teacher.
The Families for Literacy Program (FFL) introduces families to the services of the public library, teaches low-literate parents how to read to their children, and gives them free children's books to develop literacy rich environments at home.

Adult Learner Book Club
The book club provides a safe place for learners of all reading levels to engage with other adult learners in reading best selling books and sharing their ideas.
Book club members receive a free copy of the book and/or upon request, an audio version of the book. The book club provides learners the opportunity to practice literacy skills, learn new vocabulary and gain confidence while relaxing and enjoying a book.

Computer Learning Lab
The computer lab provides a supportive, affirming environment where learners work at their own pace and receive hands-on experience.
Staffed by READ/San Diego staff and volunteers, the Computer Learning Lab provides access to web-based education programs as well as user-friendly, interactive software on PC and Macintosh computers. A wide selection of programs is offered to assist with learning phonics, spelling, grammar, vocabulary development, basic math, algebra, geometry, resume and job preparation skills, touch typing, begining word processing and preparation for the GED high school equivalency exam.

Learner Council
READ/San Diego's Adult Learner Council meets monthly for skill building workshops and cultural enrichment field trips.
Adult learners meet monthly for workshops on a variety of topics. Past workshops have focused on creative writing, math, CPR, and stress management. The Learner Council has also met for guided tours of local museums, and to attend special events.
